Sunday 7 – Pink Thinking & how to wear it

It’s March already guys!

That makes me happy. How about you?

Thank you so much to everyone who popped over last week and left a comment: I don’t know exactly what it is about blog comments specifically, but they’re just the best!

Today I’m going to look at one colour, and one colour only: pink!

I can’t seem to get enough of it at the moment: it’s dominating my instagram feed, and so I thought it best to get it… as in my current love of it, off my chest.

Let’s get stuck in!

7. Topshop – Satin Pleat Midi Skirt (£39)

Is that bright enough for you?!

It’s a proper, neon pink alright!

Not only does this skirt encompass what has become a favourite amongst many, many of us: the midi length, but it also ticks the pleated box and current love of all things satin.

I’m loving the addition of the matching fabric belt detail.

Unfortunately, this skirt is only available in the regular range and so would be a full-blown maxi on us shorties…

… which of course isn’t that much of a drama, however, the combination of the neon-pink with the shiny satin in a maxi length would instantly turn this skirt into a dressy piece only, without much scope to dress it down.

In my opinion, obvs.

Still, that other-Bean… the colour loving crazy Bean who lives in a parallel universe?

She’d totally be rocking this skirt – maxi or not!

6. Warehouse – Short Sleeve Shirt (£32)

From Neon pink, to a very subtle, lighter pink.

This cute little shirt would look lovely worn with any number of colours, but especially Khaki!

And this cute little collar, would look so sweet, peeping over a crew neck sweater:

The shirt is 100% polyester – which isn’t always a bad thing… I mean, one look at it, and you can tell that the drape of the shirt is gorgeous.

All sizes available – apart from my size 6.

5. Stradvarius – Limited Edition Basic Coat (£59)

The one I’ve got in my basket.

This cute bubblegum pink coat, is indeed a great basic.

It’s composition is predominantly man-made, but there’s 23% wool in the mix too… all of which is reflected in the price tag.

After our long winters, we are all, in general, fed up with proper coats and want to move onto Blazers and lighter jackets.

However, it’s still pretty much coat weather for the next 3 months… and a lighter, brighter coat like this one would be a welcome addition to my mainly neutral wardrobe.

It would look great with blue denim, black… as well as all the brown-tones we’re seeing popping up, more and more.

4. Topshop – Hazy Sandals (£19)

This years variation of what ends up being sell-out Topshop cheap-flat-strappy-sandals.

There are 5 colours available, including two leo-print variations and 3 of the colours available in a wider-fit.

But as I’m blogging about Pink, I’ve included these ‘hot’ pink beauties.

How beautiful are these going to look with a tan?

Even if not a full blown summer outfit, and just ankle grazing jeans with a crisp white shirt… these hot pink hazy sandals will instantly lift your spirits!

And they’re a bargain too!

I have two pairs from last year’s version (the ‘Hiccup’ sandal) and so I’m not sure I need a 3rd pair…?

{Or do I?!}

(And don’t forget, if you prefer a little heel, these coral-pink Strippy Heeled Sandals (£46) are proving very popular since I last blogged about them a few weeks ago, popping up in mags, on insta, other blogs… with similar, but pricier versions around in Zara & Mango, I think.)

3. M&S – Leather Chain Detail Loafers (£45)

Sticking with footwear,  what do we think of these?

After seeing the Toppers HOT pink Hazy sandals, these M&S loafers look pretty… brown-ish, don’t they?

They’re definitely more of a coral / salmon pink though:

I’m gonna tell you straight: I’m rather taken with that tiny granny-block heel, the colour and the shape.

And… I think we all know by now, that M&S Insolia Flex technology makes for a mega comfy shoe.

What I’m not totally sold on is the chain detail.

Why?

Well, I have narrow feet.

And often, chunky details like the chain on these loafers can look all sorts of wrong on my feet.

I will be popping into town later this week though, and might just have to make 2 minutes to pop into M&S to try these.

Just to see, like… for research purposes you understand?!

2. Stradivarius – Oversized Check Blazer (£39.99)

So… when ever a piece has ‘oversized’ in it’s name, it is in effect, a no-go for the narrow-shouldered, extra-petite titchies like myself.

(I guess I could buy a ‘normal’ blazer and it would be oversized on me?!)

Anyway, I thought about making this piece my Stinker of the Week out of sheer bitterness that it would be gigantic on me!

However, I can’t help it.

I love the muted pink check:

I’m also a sucker for contrast-lining.

Good job for my bank balance that this would be faaaaaaar too over-oversized on me!

1. Arket – Alpaca & Merino Cardigan (£79)

 

One I have already.

And one I love.

This is the most prefect cardi!

Not too long, not too short… it has pockets, and the neckline isn’t too low…

There’s the added bonus of the ribbed-cuff part of the sleeve being quite long, which lends it’s self so well to be turned up:

The cardi is pretty versatile, I’ve worn mine quite a bit already, considering I’ve not had it that long:

If, like me, you have a teeny-tiny budget with £79 being at the upper end, ‘treat’ level of what you can afford to spend, I have found a pretty good budget alternative:

This M&S Textured Open Front Cardigan would give the same look for a lot less – it’s just £17.50.

It doesn’t have pockets I’m afraid… but for £17.50, I’d say it’s worth a punt!

Stinker of the Week: Topshop Wool Rich Hooded Jacket (£69)

So… I get it: I’m not the target market for this jacket…

… but there’s something ‘off’ about the proportions, given the woolly fabric.

Looks a bit ‘meh’ to me.

Wildcard of the Week: M&S Cotton Rich Tailored Shorts (£19.50)

Bermudas?

Yup.

Pink Bermudas at that.

In general, this length of shorts, can… in theory… cut the leg off at the most unflattering bit possible.

However… I’m kinda partial to a bermuda length (way nicer and more flattering than cycling shorts!)

And as ever… I don’t really care if they do make me look *even* shorter.

Although… candy pink bermudas?

It’s tricky to style these without getting all cliche and boring… but I’m gonna give it my best shot.

Look 1 – Preppy-ish:

Although I’m going for a the traditional preppy, striped shirt vibe here, I’d do a half-tuck of my Striped Long Sleeve Shirt (M&S, £39.50) to loosen the look up a little.

Go for some of these M&S Leather Square Toe Slingbacks in Stone (£45) for a simple, yet chic look.

If you prefer a loafer, then I’d go for a lower cut one, rather than too high across the top of the foot.

A classic double breasted blazer in navy (£39.50) is a little softer than black, but either would work.

These M&S Laguna Wrap Around Oval Sunglasses (£9.50) are perfectly oversized for wearing on your face, or your head!

And finally, this M&S Faux Leather Tote Bag (£45) is perfect for carrying in your hand, or your shoulder… not to mention, for shoving a spare crew neck knit in… just in case!

Look 2 – Not Preppy:

This is a look which could easily take you from day to night.

A cute tie front top, like this Dorothy Perkins Ginger Spotted Tie Front Top (reduced to £15) would go perfectly with the pink Bermudas.

I’m going to go with a longer line cardi over the top, something like this (not pictured) Madewell Kent Open Neck Long Cardigan (reduced to £49.99) and…

… as this a daytime look, I’m gonna chuck a pair of this Converse Yellow Black Egret Lepoard Print Hi’s (£64.99) into the mix.

However, as you’re heading out later, don’t forget to pop your Zara Mid Heel Sandals (£29.99) in your Zara Rigid Tote (£29.99.)

Look 3 – Cool As Office Wear:

Tailored Bermuda length shorts are a great option to wear to work.

Literally, anytime from… now.

I’m going to go with a ‘cooler, not yet warm’ springtime look, so you’d need some tights with this outfit… and I’d go nude.

YUP! Nude tights I tell ya!

Falke Tights were my go to back in my office days… they’re pricey, but they really are brilliant.

I’m gonna start off with this M&S Cashmere Turtle Neck (£89), neatly tucked in and shorts belted with this H&M Narrow Belt £6.99.

This H&M Check Trenchcoat (£59) would look great over the top… with these gorgeous Zara Leather Shoes with wood effect heel (£39.99 – also available in Sand.)

I’m gonna go for a Zara Everyday Backpack with this outfit, but of course, you could go regular hand-held tote, cross-body… what every you fancy really?

Would you wear pink bermuda shorts?

I think I would.

Having never been a mad-crazy pink fiend, I have always had a soft spot for this traditionally girlie colour.

And just recently, with some newly acquired pink pieces, I’ve found them pretty easy to incorporate into my mainly neutral wardrobe… here’s how:

But perhaps my favourite way of wearing this colour, is mixing it up with brown tones, whether a dirty-mushroomy brown, rust or a richer chocolate brown… I think pink & brown work beautifully together:-
