Well Hellooo!

I’ve had quite a blog hiatus, haven’t I?

In fact, the entire planet we live in has changed, as we all enter week 8 (or week 10 in our case…) of lockdown in what is a global pandemic.

I don’t really wanted to dwell on the doom & gloom of that… if that’s ok?

Most weeks, I diligently tap away and write a Sunday 7 blogpost with a fierce determination to hit publish on the Sunday evening and…

… I don’t.

I think perhaps just getting my thoughts out of my own head and writing them down, has been as much ‘sharing’ as I’ve needed.

But I’ve missed blogging and have been hatching a whole host of posts in my mind, wondering which would be the best way to ease myself back into it.

The solution?

An interview, of course!

AND… and… A GIVEAWAY!

Before that though: you know me… so you gotta hear the back story first!

Last autumn, I’d posted a recommendation ‘request’ on my Instagram stories: having halted all spending on fast fashion, I was hoping to become a little more sustainable in my self-care products and was finally getting to the tail end of using up all my old “bog standard” moisturisers / cleansers etc…

…I was at a point where I was ready to invest in something decent.

As in… something which had less chemicals (possibly no chemicals?) which was organic, vegan, cruelty free, in recyclable packaging perhaps…?

I didn’t really get much feedback on my Instagram story request… rather I did get feedback but it was predominately for the regular ‘high street’ offerings from the usual skincare giant brands, although there were a handful of “I’ve heard good things about….” responses as well…

… No one had any direct, personal experience, recommendations of those smaller, organic, sustainable brands which had been suggested.

I’m generally pretty clueless about skincare.

That same week, I entered a couple of Instagram giveaways – both for some organic skincare products, whilst I continued to utilise the final scrapings of a generic Nivea face cream I had, as well as the dregs of some Clinque Cleansing / Toner bottles which needed using up.

The following week, I found out I’d won the skincare giveaway: whoop!

I cannot tell you *how* excited I was about this.

Winning a prize via an Instagram giveaway really is such a great feeling: especially when you’ve won something which you really need / wanted to try out!

My prize arrived a few days later: A Genevieve Sweeney Accessories Bag and some Five Dot Botanics Skincare products:

Posing for a #fridayfeet shoefie in my GS Sock Subscription socks and of course, my wonderful skin care winnings in shot!

Over the past few months, since I won the Five Dot Botanics giveaway… I’ve been using the products and have become pretty smitten with them.

Not only that, I feel as though I’ve gotten to know Zaffrin from Five Dot pretty well.

There was talk of meeting up before this wretched global pandemic put all our lives on hold… though, for most of us… we are at least comfortable and safe, holed up in our own homes…

So! Before I talk you through what I won… which I promise to keep brief, as there’s an interview to fit in as well… who are Five Dot Botanics?

Click this image to read more about who Five Dot Botanics are…

Five Dot Botanics is the brainchild of London based duo, Zaffrin and Brian O’Sullivan: their mission was to create a skincare range with minimal, natural ingredients – each product has just 5 ingredients in it – no chemicals.

They wanted the skincare to be as natural as possible, so using Botanicals for their products, the natural extracts are  from plants, nuts, seeds and flowers, thus giving skin, only what it really needs.

This is the treat product of the four products I won.

It’s a little bit of self-indulgence.

Just for 10 minutes, mind…

This Rose Clay and Lavender mask is super easy to apply… as with other Five Dot products: a little goes a long way.

The mask isn’t drying, in the way that some clay masks can be… it is however, cleansing and restorative… you can immediately feel its effects with its warming, velvety natural goodness.

You apply a thin layer to your cleansed face, leave for 10-15 minutes and then wash away the mask, which will have drawn out the impurities in your skin, with a warm, damp cloth… leaving your skin feeling soft, restored and just… so clean.

And it is THIS gorgeous product which Five Dot have offered to give away…

Not just to one of my readers but to five of you!

To be in with a chance of winning your own Pure Rewind Restorative Mask & an organic, muslin face cloth, for a little self-care during a super stress time for most of us, in one way or another… join me on my Instagram tomorrow evening!

So that’s it from me… I should mention that Five Dot use all recyclable packaging / bottles / pots… even the packaging ‘wotsits’ dissolve in water and can washed away, down your sink.

That said, I’m not sure if the pipette of the face serum can be recycled: I’ll need to check that for you!

Now, full disclosure: I mentioned right at the top of this blogpost that gifted items were included… although I’ve only talked about the 4 products I won in a giveaway, I was recently sent a few more, including the Calm Shift Cleansing Face Balm to try.

I feel very fortunate to have been sent these items, which also include a bottle of the Hand Sanitiser – a small batch of which was produced since lockdown began, as a ‘good will’ gesture to give away for free, to the community and to Five Dot customers.

It’s this kind of “brands doing good” ethic which is very much what I think we’d all like to see more of and which is why I will be buying more eye serum for myself….

… and indeed, I hope to remain a loyal customer and will definitely be trying out any new products (hopefully and SPF!) the very second they are launched.

I really hope you’ve enjoyed my first blogpost after my five month break…

… and of course the hope for me now…

… is that I might get back to blogging a little more regularly.

Hope you are all keeping safe and well.

Would love to hear your thoughts: leave me a comment below and I’ll get back to you.

Thanks for reading,

Bean Xx
