Hello!
How’s your sunshiny week been?
Whether you love or hate the heat, there’s no question… we’ve all been hankering after a bit of summer, haven’t we?
And as roasting hot as it was yesterday, it was short-lived… and as of today, we’re probably at a more ‘acceptable’ level of summer and I for one am *loving* it!
Following on from last week’s Seven Ways to slow your Fashion shopping habits, I thought I’d try something new this week: a Sunday 7 Quiz.
It’s the age old, in the style of a ‘Cosmo-quiz’ format, taking your most common answer (e.g. A’s, B’s etc) to give you your final result.
It’s tongue in cheek in terms of the final analysis, but the subject matter of fast-fashion is, as we all know now, a serious environmental threat to our planet…
The ‘tongue-in-cheek’ aspect is in *NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM* meant to detract from the seriousness of this issue, but it is, by design, made to try and make all of us (me included…) take stock of our own attitudes towards how we shop.
Obviously there are limitless questions, and I’ve only included 7 in this quiz, and perhaps there’s an obvious repetition / pattern to the questions & answers, but that’s the whole point…
All of us often fall into the same trap again and again…
Time to get stuck in – I’ll share my answers with you at the end.
Question {{ index + 1 }}
Do you:
So, how’d you do?
I got mostly C’s.
{Which means: “On the Fence – you’re doing pretty well at questioning yourself and have taken some baby steps at slowing down. This is great, you are definitely becoming a more considered shopper but there’s always room to improve – carry on and see if you can’t push yourself even further.”}
But then, if you read last week’s blog post… you probably guessed as much, right?!
I would love, love… like *reaaaaally* LOVE to hear from you this week, as to how you did in the quiz, and what you thought it?
I mean: do you think I’m making too-light of a serious issue?
Or, do you see that it’s kind of helpful way (albeit an overly obvious way) at highlighting how ridiculous some of our attitudes towards how we shop can be?
I know I’ve made some right old, dumb-arse decisions in the past, some of which I highlighted last week… and some of which, were only in the very recent past.
But, I am making attempts to alter my mindset and change my shopping habits: it’s a work in progress.
I hope this has given you a little food for thought.
Thanks for reading.

Great post Bean, I got mostly C’s too which I’m fairly happy with. .. but I could do better.!
I am trying to be more mindful. I don’t buy much anyway but am being more considered when I do
Thanks for sharing xx
Thanks Tracey, I did get one D which I was pleased with and one A which annoyed me!
I think you and I are on the same page with all of this… it’s a complex socio-economic issue (globally) but we need a planet to live on so I guess we all have to accept we need to make changes.
Thanks for the feedback x
3Cs, 3Ds and 1 A.
However, the main reason I’m dissuaded from buying more it’s because I hate clutter at home and overflowing wardrobes etc.
You’re doing better than me Jess!
And whatever your reasoning- it’s working! Thanks for sharing lovely xx
This is a great quiz! I got mostly Ds. This is because I’ve only just started (aged 46) to actually enjoy clothes (long story as to why), and the only clothes shopping I really enjoy is for vintage. Also, I have very little disposable income as a single mum, so I just can’t be tempted by lots of things because I don’t have enough money. I also find that being environmentally conscious about fashion is one of the few things that’s easy to do. Plastic on the other hand isn’t so easy and I really need to do more to move away from it as much as possible.
Thanks for sharing Catherine – and yes, I’m with you on the tiny budget side of things, but I’ve always loved adding a few new pieces in to my wardrobe each season. I had 7 years of no shopping – charity shop or new because I was so skint so now I try to be balanced… but it’s hard! It’s a minefield knowing what is and isn’t right.
Interesting to hear about your difficulties with plastic: but you’re not alone. Again it’s really hard to know what to do sometimes but as long as we’re all trying our best, then it’s a great start! Xx
Mostly C’s For me too!!!
Well that’s brilliant L!
Turns out you’re not half as bad as you may have thought you were after last qeek’s Blog!

Loved this, I have been trying to change my habits but could do much better. I have now set a monthly budget and I intend to save my budget to buy better and not impulse but. I have just started to work from home with some travel so don’t need a large work wardrobe so that should help. I think anything you do too highlight our habits is a good thing. Well done
That’s an excellent plan of action! It’s pretty much how I spend too: although just because I have a (tiny) budget – doesn’t mean I have to spend it is the way I look at things. Sometimes spending 3-4 months worth (which only scrimps me up to) buying one feel good piece is much better for me, for slowing down – all round winner.
Well done you, Pauline! Xx
Bean, I LOVE this post. I spent a long weekend away with some girlfriends last week & I was horrified at the level of Primark & fast fashion “oh it’s just for this holiday “ pieces they had. My resort wear collection was based on the concept of classic, built to last pieces. Yes they are expensive but that’s because nobody was exploited in their production & they are true investment pieces. That said, I’m not averse to an H&M purchase but…only if you’re sure it’s a 30-wear minimum. Which actually is the same rule I apply to designer purchases too.
It’s terrifying really, isn’t it? the knicker question cane from a true story – a scenario I was faced with and shamefully I’d didn’t call the friend out in – too polite!
I agree that we can’t grind to a halt and that a mix of high street, sustainable (bespoke in fact!) is a good way forward! Your collection is beautiful… thanks for dropping by x
Love this! Really made me think about how I’m transitioning and being more environmentally conscious x
This is brilliant to hear! I’m sure you’ve picked up that I’m not exactly brilliant myself but I am also trying my best to change my mindset xx
Hi B,
I got mostly Cs too – I definitely come in to the “could do better”
category! I have noticed that I am
being much more considered in my purchases recently. I think journey blog last week focussed my mind a bit – good work Mrs!! ❤️
Good to hear Helen! I guess as long as we’re not mostly a or b’s them at least we are trying and are on the right path!
Thanks lovely x
Great quiz and definitely food for thought. I got 4 C’s and 3 D’s but I admit that whilst I can say no to clothing purchases I have a problem with buying home decor . One thing I have realised is that when I pay more for something be it clothing or homeware, I look after it more. Always look forward to reading your blog Bean x
Bravo Karen! You’re doing better than me… I am trying super hard: I ordered a fair few bits with birthday discounts in early June and most of it has been returned. Though not all.
Totally agree about looking after stuff more when you’ve saved for it. I buy a lot of house stuff from charity shops or eBay… more character and a sustainable option perhaps?
Thanks for commenting!
Mostly C for me too. I think it’s great that you’re highlighting how ‘fast fashion ‘ can be so damaging to the environment and to our bank balance! I love Instagram and it really inspires me , however the accounts which show endless try ons and gifted items definitely add fuel to the ‘have to have it’ mentality that the majority of us can’t afford. I love that you are encouraging people to stop and think xxxxx
Well done Julie! I think one of the most important steps to improving is self-realisation which helps is recalibrate our whole mentality and approach to shopping.
I agree about the non stop try on accounts on Instagram: I’ve stopped watching tbh… but for the most part, they feed off their ever growing popularity (it’s addictive I guess?!) and in a way the viewers are helping perpetuate the problem (if that makes sense?!)
Besides which: who the hell am I to criticise when I’ve done similar in the past? I don’t know: it’s complicated! Xx
Mostly C’s. I know I have been guilty of impulse buying and justifying some purchases as I need to cheer myself (relationship break up), I work FT, I have 3 kids etc etc. I know I need to stop and think.
Really interesting , thank you x
Hi Natalie, you’re doing pretty well – it’s hard work trying to change our mindset and attitudes… I’m not there yet, as you know but every little step is a step in the right direction.
Thanks for dropping by x
Great post ! I’m guilty of buying the same in every colour if something fits as being 5 ft nothing dosn’t leave me great choice , it’s great when you eventually fine an item that fits top and bottom half enjoyed your quiz
Thanks Heather!
I must admit – like you, I struggle with fit and have definitely bought stuff in all the colours – just because it’s pretty novel for me to have such choice. Trying to improve though x
I got a D! Super happy with that.
Amaiiizing!!! I am wel-jeal Caroline!
I’m aiming for, and slowly building up to being a D but that you’re there already is brill!
C!! Im happy with that at the moment… small changes and feeling less need to outfit share on IG is definitely helping my spending and make more conscious shopping decisions Great quiz Bean xx
Me too Tracey! Well done!
I’m finding myself turned off by sone of the ‘f*ck it’ attitudes I’m seeing.
I get we can’t grind to a halt over night and I get I’ve been guilty of a lot of fast-fashion craziness but I’m proud to have slowed right down and that I’m helping spread the word.
I don’t know if i’ll Go back to a normal Sunday 7 in September but I also miss it.
It’s all so tricky and hard!
Thanks for taking the quiz! Xx
Hi Bean,
Love a quiz – great post!
Mostly Ds for me.
But I must come clean, I do think I’m quite eco warrior and all that, but I’m also skint. So, I can’t actually afford to buy anything – I have zero budget for clothes & so when you do see me in new stuff on Insta, my child is going hungry because of it ( not quite, but you know what I mean!).
However, I’d like to think if I did have lots of money that I’d still be conscious of slowing my fashion purchases down.
Xx
Bravo Mel – I applaud you!
I have to say I only got mostly c’s (one A and one D in the mix…) because I’m a tricky size to buy for and with a limited budget so can’t afford alterations on top of paying for clothing.
So I guess… what I’m saying is, whatever it is that has made us more considered – who cares?! That we are now thinking more, and harder on whether or not to buy is the main thing, right?
Thank you so much xx
Great post, very well considered, thanks for taking the time to plan it out and post it. Mostly Cs too but still guilty of fast fashion fixes…but trying to be more considered and leave it in the basket for 24 hours before checking out!
Thank you Andrea! I thought the questions highlighted how frivolous I have been myself in the past, right up until very recently in fact – we are all guilty of the odd treat and more.
But that we’re thinking and buying less is great for the planet.
What it will do to global socio-economies- I don’t know.
It’s all pretty complicated & devastating. X
I got mostly C too Bean, which I’m quite happy with
I need to do more as I still buy too much although I try and stay in my monthly budget (I’m guilty of thinking that I NEED to spend that money each month when really I could save it)
I would much rather buy one quality item though so I do try and do that
Xx
Thanks for taking the quiz and letting me know your score.
The way I see it, scoring Mostly C’s is pretty good!
I think we’ve all been guilty of fast fashion fixes… we have to unlearn that behaviour and that takes time.
Well done lovely x
